AL-YAZDI.HAJI ABDU.Pseudonym of.; BURTON.Sir RICHARD Francis. THE KASIDAH. Couplets,od Haji Abdu Al-Yazdi.A lay of the Higher law.Translated and annotated by his friend and Pupil,F.B. H.S.Nichols and Co.London.,1894 LIMITED EDITION.Number 5 of only 100 copies.4to.(10.5 x 8.8 inches).Printed on unbleached Arnold paper.Preface by Lady Burton.Text printed on one side of the page only.Notes and annotations by Burton himself, under the pseudonym F.B (Frank Baker-Frank as in Francis.Baker was his mothers maiden name),as well as the actual poem. This volume is the second edition of this work, the first being the very rare 1880 edition issued by Bernard Quaritch in London.Publishers black cloth with blind stamped key design to top and bottom of front board with gilt lettering to centre.Spine and rear board lettered in gilt.Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Two previous owners bookplates on front blank endpapers. Some minor bumping to corners and a bit of rubbing and loss to the very top and bottom of spine but overall a very good example of this scarce early edition of Burton's enduring poem, described by Idries Shah as "a bridge whereby the thinking Westerner could accept essential Sufi concepts".A very nice piece of book production.: Price:
