HOMER.; T. E. SHAW (Colonel T. E. Lawrence), Translates, anonymously. THE ODYSSEY OF HOMER. Privately printed and published by Emery Walker, Wilfred Merton, and Bruce Rogers. London.,1932 LIMITED EDITION. Small folio.(11.6 x 8.2 inches). One of 530 copies, beautifully printed, using Rogers Centaur type, on specially made off-white paper. Illustrated with 26 woodcut roundels after designs by Rogers, printed in black on a gold background, as a vignette on the title page and as the chapter head pieces. A fine, bright copy, finely bound in original full black crushed Niger morocco by W. H. Smith. Spine with seven raised bands, two compartments lettered in gilt. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Housed in a black paper covered slip-case which is rubbed and bumped to the edges but has done its job of protecting the book within. Some light offsetting to the endpaper turn-ins, otherwise a crisp and clean copy. Previous owners neat bookplate on front free endpaper. --------- Lawrence accepted the task of translating The Odyssey for this edition early in 1928, estimating that it would take him two years of part time work. In the end it took him four years and the book was finally published in 1932, without Lawrence's name attached, at his insistence. A wonderful example of fine papermaking, printing and book-binding.: Price:
