Alfred A. Knopf. New York. 1948.
EARLY EDITION. 48th printing. Originally published in 1923. 8vo. (8.3 x 5.6 inches). Illustrated with 12 mono plates by the author. Finely bound in late twentieth century full red calf. Spine with raised bands, the compartments with gilt rules, lettering and decoration. Two black labels, ruled and lettered in gilt. Double gilt ruled borders on boards. Gilt inner dentelles and marbled endpapers. Red silk bookmark. Top edge gilt. Bound for Books Inc. Bookshop of San Francisco, with their printed label on the rear inner board and small ink name stamped to the very top of the front blank free endpaper. A near fine copy, with a few minor spots to a few pages, in a near fine leather binding with just a little fading to the spine. Housed in a red paper covered slip case which has some wear the the edges but has done it's job of protecting the book. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master bookbinder.
