A First edition, early issue that contains the following textual points: "dead man's chest" is not capitalised on pages 2 and 7; broken 'v' in "vain" on p.40; 'a' is missing on p. 63; the '8' is present in page number on p. 83; '7' is overstamped in page number on p. 127; the full stop is missing following "opportunity" on p. 178; "worse" for worst on p. 197. This copy is bound without the publishers adverts. --- A very good, bright copy, bound in early full tan polished calf by Zaehnsdorf. Raised bands to the spine, each with three gilt dots. Compartments decorated in gilt. Two red and one green labels, ruled and lettered in gilt. Decorative gilt borders to the boards. Top edge gilt, the others untrimmed. Gilt inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers. Attractive circular armorial bookplate of Richard Henry Tidswell to the front pastedown. Some very minor rubbing to edges and one small stain at middle of rear joint, otherwise a near fine and very attractively bound copy of this classic.
