FIRST EDITIONS. Four volumes. 8vo. (7.3 x 5 inches). Illustrated throughout with wonderful line drawings by E. H. Shepard. When We Were Very Young second state with page number ix present. Fine, crisp and clean copies throughout. Uniformly bound by Bayntun (Riviere) of Bath in mid to late twentieth century full red morocco leather bindings. Raised bands, each with three gilt leaf motifs. Compartments triple ruled and lettered in gilt. Both boards with five line ruled panel, within a single gilt ruled border. All front boards are decorated with multi coloured leather inlays illustrating Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin. Board edges with gilt piping. Triple gilt ruled lines to turn-ins, with floral corner pieces. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Original gilt illustrated and lettered spines, boards and decorative endpapers are bound in at the back of each corresponding volume. The first volume was issued with plain white endpapers. The four volumes are housed in a fleece lined slip case with red cloth covering and a silk tie-pull. The slip case is just a little bumped to the corners and a hint of uniform fading to the spines but still a hugely impressive and fine set of these charming books.
