Philip Allan & Co. London. 1923.
FIRST EDITION. Large 8vo. (10.3 x 6.7 inches). Fully illustrated with a colour frontispiece by Draper, who also drew the head and tail pieces, plus 144 mono illustrations and 3 maps. Original fawn cloth spine with dark blue label, lettered and ruled in gilt. Blue paper covered boards. Board edges and corners are a bit bumped and there is some los to the blue paper at the bottom of both boards. Internally a bright and clean copy. Mounted onto the front free endpaper is an envelope containing a signed hand written letter from the author, dated 1924, and presenting this copy as a gift. Two neat previous owner names to the endpaper. Loosely inserted is an extra copy of the double page map endpapers that feature at the rear of the book, this with Chiswick House Grounds coloured in dark green and the cricket pitch drawn in. Overall a very good copy of this well produced book. --- There were two issues of this edition, one on fine paper, and this ordinary edition. A list of subscribers is printed before the title page.
