The scarce portrait frontis is engraved after the portrait by John Payne, currently in the National Portrait gallery in London. Contemporary brown calf boards with two silk ties to each board. Double blind ruled border on boards. Board edges with gilt dotted lines. Skilfully re-backed with matching coloured calf spine, ruled in blind. Neat repair to the top outer corner of the lower board. A few knife marks to the top board. A superior copy of this posthumous work by the popular and influential puritan divine Richard Sibbes (1577-1635), also known as Sibbs or Sibs. --- Rare in first edition and complete with the portrait frontis.
