Bliss, Sands & Co. London. 1898, 1898.
NEW EDITION, THE FIRST WITH COLOUR PLATES. 4to. (11.7 x 9.3 inches). Illustrated with 23 colour plates, each with instruction how to see the moving image. A transparent sheet in a pocket at the front of the book is placed over the illustrations, a small printed star on the page and the sheet showing the marry-up point, and gentle movement gives the impression of moving images. Publishers paper covered boards with colour illustration designed specially for this book by Henri de Toulouse Lautrec. Red cloth spine. The loose viewing sheet is in very good condition and completely intact. A little wear and marking to the board extremities, commensurate with age, but overall a superior copy of this fragile book, often found in poor condition. Originally published earlier in 1898 with fewer, all mono, illustrations this expanded version with colour images shows the moving image effect considerably better.
