Third edition. Large 8vo. (9.3 x 6.5 inches). xxxi, 1238 pp. Printed in Eric Gill`s Perpetua type. Two double page colour maps, the original sets of endpapers, are bound in at the rear. A very good copy, finely bound by Riviere and Son in early full burgundy morocco leather. Spine with raised bands, ruled in blind and lettered in gilt. Blind stamped ruled lines and strap decoration continuing onto boards. Board edges double ruled in gilt. All edges gilt. Plain off-white endpapers. Gilt inner dentelles. A little minor browning to some pages edges but generally a clean copy throughout. There is a scratch to the front board and a creack to the leather at the top of the front hinge, but still an understated, attractive leather binding.
