Random House. New York. 1969.
FIRST BOOK FORM EDITION. 8vo. Presentation copy, inscribed on the front free endpaper to film director Tony Harvey ("To Tony - I hope you do it. Neil."), indicating a desire at the time for Harvey to direct the film adaptation of the play. The film version, released in 1971, was in fact directed by Arthur Hiller, and Neil Simon expressed unhappiness with the result. Original black cloth-backed yellow boards, spine lettered in gilt, front board stamped in blind. With the original dust jacket. Spine is a little faded, but the lettering still very readable, and there are a couple of minor stains to the margins, otherwise an excellent copy. First edition in book form, first printing of the three act play which premiered on Broadway at the Plymouth Theatre on February 14, 1968.
